WhatsApp is testing a new feature that gives users greater control over their profile visibility. In its latest Android beta version 2.25.22.22, the platform is rolling out a disappearing “About” status option to select beta testers.

Traditionally, the “About” section in WhatsApp profiles remains static unless manually updated—often leading to outdated or irrelevant messages being displayed. The new disappearing status feature changes that by allowing users to set timers, ensuring their “About” message automatically vanishes after a selected duration.

How the Feature Works:

When enabled, users can choose from preset timers such as:

  • 30 minutes

  • 1 hour

  • 6 hours

  • 12 hours

  • 1 day

There’s also a custom timer feature that allows users to set a duration of up to one month, perfect for indicating temporary activities like vacations or work breaks.

The status appears at the top of a chat screen, rotating with the user’s “Last Seen” info, offering contacts quick context about availability.

Privacy and Personalization:

  • Disappearing statuses will respect current privacy settings.

  • An expiration time will be displayed clearly.

  • Users can attach emojis for more expressive updates.

  • Expired statuses disappear from public view but are saved privately for the user to review later.

  • Users can also delete or update the status at any time before expiration.

Currently available to a limited group of beta testers, this feature is part of WhatsApp’s broader push toward offering better privacy, customization, and control for users. A wider rollout is expected after successful testing.
