The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken steps to improve the performance of its Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS) by offloading outdated IMEI records.
This move is expected to enhance overall efficiency for both PTA and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), ensuring smoother operations and better system management.
The initiative also aims to encourage mobile users to register their devices by paying applicable FBR duties and taxes, thereby fostering a more compliant and sustainable digital ecosystem.

According to PTA, any unregistered mobile device will remain operational for only 60 days. If the required FBR duties/taxes are not paid within this timeframe, the device will be re-blocked in line with DIRBS regulations.
PTA reiterated its commitment to maintaining a robust, transparent, and consumer-friendly mobile ecosystem in Pakistan.
