Iraq Revises Visa Rules for Pilgrims Under 50

Iraqi authorities have introduced new age-based visa regulations for international pilgrims visiting the country’s sacred religious sites.

According to Muhammad Umar Butt, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, men under the age of 50 will no longer be eligible for a pilgrimage visa if traveling alone. However, those under 50 may still qualify if accompanied by their families.

Officials clarified that the updated policy aims to better manage pilgrim inflows, enhance security, and improve logistical arrangements at holy shrines, especially during peak religious gatherings. They stressed that the move is not intended to restrict access but to safeguard visitors and ensure a more organized experience for millions of annual travelers.

The revised requirements apply to all international pilgrims applying for religious visas to Iraq’s holy cities and shrines. Authorities have urged individuals and travel operators to review the new conditions before submitting applications.
