Pakistan is gearing up to expand its technology manufacturing sector with plans to establish a laptop and tablet industry, following discussions between the government and Chinese tech firm HYF.
Government Push for Tech Manufacturing
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Finance, Haroon Akhtar Khan, met with HYF’s CEO to explore the setup of production facilities in Pakistan. HYF specializes in laptops, tablets, and fingerprint devices.
During the meeting, Khan revealed that the government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, will soon introduce a Mobile Device Policy. For the first time, this policy will cover not only mobile phones but also laptops and tablets, signaling a major step in Pakistan’s tech industrial growth.
The Prime Minister has directed all possible facilitation for Chinese investors, ensuring that their investments are fully secure and treated as a government priority.

Investor Facilitation
To boost investor confidence, the SAPM announced that visa processing for Chinese investors has been streamlined, with visit and business visas now issued within 24 to 72 hours. He also instructed the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to provide full cooperation to HYF for setting up operations in Pakistan.
Future Prospects
The proposed venture is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital and electronics ecosystem, reduce import dependency, create jobs, and support the government’s “Make in Pakistan” initiative, positioning the country as a growing hub for tech manufacturing.
