The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the government’s decision to slash electricity charges for industrial and agricultural consumers, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s October 2025 announcement of a three-year subsidised power package.
Under the revised tariff, the rate for additional electricity units in both sectors has been reduced to Rs. 22.98 per unit. Agricultural users will see their rate drop from Rs. 38, while industrial consumers will see a cut from Rs. 34 per unit.
According to the Power Division, the new rates will significantly lower the average cost of purchased electricity. Agricultural users consuming an extra 100 units will save nearly Rs. 7 per unit, whereas industrial users consuming an additional 1,000 units will benefit from a reduction of almost Rs. 5 per unit.

Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said the three-year industrial package will enable businesses to plan more confidently, adding that greenfield industries—such as data centres and crypto mining facilities—will also gain from the revised tariff.
The Power Division clarified that residential and commercial consumers will not be affected by the changes. It added that the initiative is expected to boost production, enhance competitiveness, and create new job opportunities, reflecting the government’s commitment to lowering energy costs and promoting economic growth.
