PTA Ufone‑Telenor merger has received technical approval from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, allowing Ufone to begin integrating Telenor Pakistan’s spectrum and operations as part of a major consolidation in the country’s telecom sector.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted technical approval for the Ufone‑Telenor merger, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing consolidation of Pakistan’s telecom industry.

This approval enables Ufone to begin integrating the spectrum holdings and network operations of Telenor Pakistan, which PTCL acquired as part of its strategic expansion plan.

The move comes after PTCL completed its 100% acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers and reflects months of regulatory review aimed at maintaining fair competition while enabling telecom sector growth.

Industry analysts believe the merger could enhance network coverage, improve service quality, and create operational efficiencies by combining resources under a unified structure. However, regulators have also stressed the importance of protecting market competition and preventing monopolistic practices as the integration proceeds.

The next steps involve full legal and administrative consolidation, which may include further filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and mandatory court approvals before the merger is finalized.
