It is with great pride that Select Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of AirLink Communication Limited announces the inauguration of its manufacturing plant in Pakistan for the production of Xiaomi handsets. The event was held on March 4 at the factory located in Kot Lakhpat’s Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate.

With nearly all major global brands of smartphones as partners, the Airlink group is one of the largest manufacturers, retailers, and distributors of smartphones. Currently, the company holds approximately 20% of the market for distribution and is looking to gain an edge by beginning to produce Xiaomi smartphones.

In response to this auspicious occasion, Mr. Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, CEO of Select Technologies, said, “Our partnership with Xiaomi is a wonderful thing not only for the company but also for Pakistan.

It’s not just phones that make Xiaomi a global tech giant. It’s also the market leader when it comes to innovative technology. As the first step to a larger goal, this project will open many avenues as smartphone manufacturing is the most important.

As part of my plan, I aim to establish Pakistan on the global technological map with a vision of par excellence service delivery and product provision in all corners of the country. In addition to localizing manufacturing, we will also assist Pakistan in reducing import costs by improving exports.

Pakistan’s mobile market is regarded by companies around the globe as a developing market that offers a wide range of business opportunities. A significant increase in mobile operator subscriber base has resulted from 3G/4G emergence. Mobile phone brands are capitalizing on this opportunity by offering a wider selection of lower-end smartphones at affordable prices.An estimated 550 million USD in revenue will be generated from this initiative.
