The Netflix company has been cracking down on password sharing as it struggles to maintain its revenue stream in the midst of the recession. In order to enforce it in Latin America, it is now putting into place more drastic measures, and it is testing a new method for doing so.
Although there has been an initial backlash against the idea of charging a password-sharing fee, the streaming giant believes it will be beneficial in the long term for the company to maintain its revenue. In the wake of the recent report, it is now suggested that the phenomenon will soon start to occur beyond Latin America as well.
It has been reported that Netflix plans to introduce this change by the end of March this year, according to its latest earnings report. There will be a price increase in fees for users who share their passwords, because of this change. Those who only share passwords within the same household are safe as long as they keep them to themselves.

According to the earnings report, Netflix will offer users “the option to pay extra if they want to share Netflix with people they don’t live with”, though specific pricing details are not mentioned in the report. It is likely that those details will appear when official announcements of the new change are made.
In some countries, Netflix has some limitations when it comes to password sharing. It does not stop or block people from sharing passwords, but users on shared accounts have to get themselves verified first. A verification code is sent to the account holder that grants access to people sharing the account.
