Nubia, a sub-brand of ZTE, has unveiled its inaugural foldable phone at MWC 2024, making waves as the most affordable folding phone to date. Dubbed the Nubia Flip 5G, this device adopts a clamshell-style design akin to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip while economizing to maintain a lower price point. Interestingly, the Nubia Flip 5G is essentially a rebranded version of the ZTE Libero Flip, recently introduced in Japan.
Design and Display The Nubia Flip 5G features a 6.9-inch foldable OLED display with a resolution of 1,188 x 2,790 pixels and a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Enhancing the primary screen is a circular 1.43-inch cover display, boasting a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. This secondary screen serves various purposes, functioning as a camera viewfinder for snapping selfies with the device’s high-resolution primary camera. Additionally, it facilitates easy access for calls, media management, weather updates, and other everyday tasks.

Internals and Software In line with its budget positioning, the Nubia Flip 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, delivering decent performance without reaching the top-tier responsiveness or gaming capabilities. Storage expansion is limited as there is no memory card slot, but users can opt for configurations offering up to 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. The device runs on Android 13, albeit not the latest iteration of the operating system.
Cameras The distinctive circular module on the phone’s rear houses a 50MP primary camera accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. Capable of shooting 4K videos and 1080p videos at 30 FPS, this camera setup promises versatile performance. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 FPS.
Battery and Pricing Equipped with a 4,310mAh battery, the Nubia Flip 5G supports 33W wired charging for swift replenishment. Nubia has set the starting price at $599, positioning the Flip 5G as the most budget-friendly folding phone currently on offer. Color choices include black and gold, as confirmed by the company. Although specifics regarding the release date and market availability remain undisclosed, Nubia assures that further details will be revealed in due course.
