Predicted Rainfall During Eid ul Fitr 2024 Holidays

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert, indicating the approach of a westerly wave expected to enter the upper regions of the country from April 10th. This will be followed by another potent westerly wave on April 12th, likely to affect most parts of Pakistan from April 13th to 15th.

According to the PMD’s forecast, the following weather conditions are expected in different regions:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

  • Rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are anticipated in various districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, and Malakand from April 10th to 15th, with intermittent breaks.
  • Regions such as Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram are likely to experience similar weather conditions from April 12th to 15th, albeit with occasional interruptions.
  • Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also expected during April 13th to 15th.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir:

  • Rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over high mountains, are predicted in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir regions including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from April 10th to 15th.
  • Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are expected during April 13th to 15th.

Punjab/Islamabad:

  • Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are forecasted for Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal from April 10th and then April 12th (evening/night) to 15th, with occasional breaks.
  • Other areas including Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar may experience similar weather from April 12th (evening/night) to 15th.
  • Isolated windstorms/hailstorms are expected during April 13th to 15th.

Balochistan:

  • Rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, are anticipated in various districts including Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chagi, Panjgur, Gawadar, and Kech from April 12th to 14th.

Sindh:

  • Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar on April 13th and 14th. Karachi and Hyderabad may also experience isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms during this period.

Possible Impacts and Advice:

  • Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in various regions from April 13th to 15th.
  • Landslides are possible in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period.
  • Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to crops, structures, and infrastructure.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to the weather conditions, particularly in wheat-harvested areas.
  • Tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the wet period.
  • Temperatures are expected to drop during the wet spell.
  • All concerned authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent any adverse situations during the forecast period.
