In a significant development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has presented an extensive working paper on 5G to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoIT&T). Crafted by PTA officials in consultation with industry stakeholders, this document outlines a roadmap for the nationwide deployment and integration of 5G networks.
Under the leadership of the newly appointed Federal Secretary for the Ministry of IT, Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood, the working paper will soon be submitted to the Ministry of Finance. It covers various essential aspects crucial for the successful launch of 5G services, including industry preparations, anticipations, addressing concerns, and establishing regulatory frameworks.
The paper also highlights the capacity of 5G networks to support emerging technologies, which will propel Pakistan into the realms of innovation and connectivity.
An integral part of the 5G rollout is the assessment of spectrum availability, which has been diligently undertaken by the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB). A recent board meeting discussed optimal allocation and utilization strategies for 5G deployment. The forthcoming issuance of meeting minutes will provide transparency and insight into the total spectrum available for 5G services.

Sources indicate that once the Frequency Allocation Board allocates the spectrum and the 5G working paper is shared with the Finance Ministry, the federal government will issue a policy directive for the launch of 5G.
Following this policy directive, the PTA will commence the process by hiring consultants for the 5G launch.
