Punjab Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, has declared an early commencement of summer holidays for all public and private schools due to the ongoing heatwave. The holidays will begin on May 25 and extend until May 31. This decision, aimed at safeguarding student health during the extreme temperatures, has garnered substantial support from parents, with 96% backing the move.

In a video statement, Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the necessity of prioritizing student health and safety amidst the current heatwave. He noted that an overwhelming majority of parents, 96%, were in favor of initiating the summer break this week. “The wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Given the extreme temperatures, it is crucial to take preventive measures to ensure their safety,” he asserted.

Schools that are currently conducting exams have been given conditional approval to remain open solely for examination purposes, provided they implement necessary safety measures. Initially, the Punjab government had scheduled summer vacations from June 1 to August 14, but the severe heatwave prompted an adjustment to these plans.
