A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter Scale struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
The tremors were widely felt throughout the twin cities and several areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Parachinar, Malakand, Lower Dir, Hangu, Charsadda, Swabi, and their surrounding regions.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the earthquake originated near the Afghanistan border.
Northern Pakistan is prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location at the convergence of the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. This region experiences significant tectonic stress, which is periodically released as seismic activity.
