The Tesla Model Y, crowned as the world’s best-selling electric car and a favorite among EV enthusiasts, has received a major upgrade for 2025. This updated version, codenamed “Juniper,” brings enhanced design features, advanced technology, and improved performance. The revamped Model Y has already debuted in China and Australia, with production centered at Tesla’s Shanghai factory. It is expected to hit UK roads later this year, further solidifying its position as one of the most sought-after electric vehicles worldwide.
Exterior Updates
The refreshed Model Y presents a sleek, refined exterior design, influenced by Tesla’s “hammerhead” aesthetic. The front fascia now includes a Cybertruck-inspired slim LED light bar, paired with streamlined headlights, while the rear features a full-width light bar with reflective lighting and bold Tesla lettering. These design changes, along with a slightly longer body and more aerodynamic wheels, contribute to improved efficiency and performance. The Model Y retains its signature panoramic glass roof and deep front windscreen, while offering five color options, including Glacier Blue and Ultra Red.
Interior Enhancements
Inside, Tesla has introduced subtle upgrades that improve comfort and luxury. Acoustic glazing on the windows ensures a quieter ride, while softer materials on the dashboard and doors add a premium feel. The ambient lighting, inspired by the latest Model 3, creates a modern and customizable atmosphere.
The centerpiece of the interior is the 15.4-inch central touchscreen, now accompanied by an eight-inch screen for rear passengers, offering games and entertainment for an engaging backseat experience. Front seats feature both ventilation and heating, and rear seats can fold electronically for added convenience. Tesla has also refined the steering controls, retaining a traditional indicator stalk while shifting gear selection and autopilot functions to the touchscreen.
Performance and Pricing
The upgraded Model Y boasts impressive performance and range improvements:
- Standard Range Rear-Wheel Drive: Offers a range of up to 466 km on a full charge.
- Long Range All-Wheel Drive: Increases range to 550 km, surpassing the previous 533 km.
- The AWD variant accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 4.3 seconds, improving on the previous 4.8 seconds.
- Enhanced charging speeds, reaching up to 250kW for the long-range model and 170kW for the standard version.
Starting at AUD 63,400 (£31,900) in Australia, the updated Model Y is expected to continue its dominance as a best-seller in key markets, including the UK.
