The Pakistani rupee (PKR) closed lower for the second consecutive day against the US Dollar (USD) today, after opening at 279 in the interbank market. Throughout the day, the exchange rate fluctuated between 278-280/$, before closing at 278. Open market rates for the PKR remained between 279-281 today.

While the exchange rate remained relatively stable, the rupee ended the day in the red against the greenback. The PKR also saw losses against most major currencies. On a day-on-day (DoD) basis, it depreciated by 0.02 percent, losing four paisas to close at 278.72 against the US Dollar. Year-to-date, the rupee has depreciated by 0.15 percent.

In addition to the US Dollar, the PKR lost ground against several other major currencies. It declined by one paisa each against the UAE Dirham (AED) and the Saudi Riyal (SAR). The rupee also lost 75 paisas against the Canadian Dollar (CAD), Rs. 1.03 against the Euro (EUR), Rs. 1.95 against the British Pound (GBP), and Rs. 1.39 against the Australian Dollar (AUD) in today’s interbank currency market.
