The Samsung Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra support 45W fast charging, similar to their predecessors, the S24 and S23 series. However, many users have reported unexpectedly slow charging speeds, raising concerns about the new charging protocol Samsung has implemented.

New Charging Protocol Causing Issues

Samsung has switched to a different protocol for 45W charging. The S25+ and S25 Ultra come with a 3A cable and rely on a 15V input to reach peak charging speeds. However, users using a 5A cable have reported their phones drawing less than 15W on average. This issue is believed to be software-related and is expected to be addressed in a future update.

Samsung Acknowledges the Charging Problem

Samsung Italia has acknowledged an “anomaly on charging with the 5A cable” and confirmed that a fix is in progress. In the meantime, affected users are advised to use the included 3A cable as a workaround.

User Reports Highlight Charging Inconsistencies

Users on Reddit have shared their experiences with third-party chargers. Reddit user Brangusler tested multiple Anker power adapters and noted that his S25+ briefly reached 25-28W, but most of the time, it hovered around 5-10W.

Is Samsung Restricting Third-Party Chargers?

Samsung devices use PD (Power Delivery) charging, a universal fast-charging standard, meaning they should be compatible with various PD-supported adapters and cables. Older Galaxy devices, like the S10, worked seamlessly with third-party chargers, but the S25+ and S25 Ultra seem to struggle.

Interestingly, there are no reports of charging issues with Samsung’s first-party adapter—which users must purchase separately, even if they own multiple PD chargers. This has raised concerns about whether the issue is a software bug or a deliberate move by Samsung.

Hopefully, Samsung will release a software update soon to restore normal fast-charging performance for all compatible PD chargers.
