Samsung Begins Production of Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7 with Lower Targets; Tri-Fold Device Also in the Works

Samsung is moving forward with its next-generation foldable smartphones, as production has reportedly commenced for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to tech tipster PandaFlashPro on X, Samsung has begun manufacturing both devices and their accessories right on schedule, targeting an early July launch.

Despite maintaining its development timeline, Samsung is reportedly adjusting its expectations this year by setting lower production targets, reflecting concerns over softened demand in the foldable segment. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to see a production volume of 3 million units, while the Z Fold 7 will be capped at just 2 million units — marking a combined 40% decrease from the previous generation.

In addition to the phones, Samsung is also producing foldable OLED panels for both models. Accessories for the Flip 7 and Fold 7 are also in the pipeline, as the company gears up for a full-fledged summer release.

Interestingly, a tri-foldable phone is also rumored to be under development. However, its limited production run — only 200,000 units — suggests it may serve as a premium niche offering due to its anticipated high cost.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to introduce a larger cover display and may feature Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chip — its first-ever 3nm processor. However, there’s uncertainty about whether Samsung will opt for a Snapdragon variant if the Exynos version isn’t ready on time. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is likely to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “Elite for Galaxy,” which is also expected in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.

In parallel, Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy S25 Edge next week. The device will highlight a slim form factor and has already gone up for pre-orders in the UK, with exclusive benefits offered to early adopters. Launch dates are set for May 13 in South Korea, May 23 in China, and a broader international rollout by May 30.
