A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court, seeking a ban on the sale and consumption of soft drinks and synthetic juices in all schools across Punjab.

The petitioner, Azam Butt, represented by legal counsel Rana Sikandar, argued that these beverages contain artificial colouring and chemical additives that may enhance flavour but are potentially harmful to children’s health. The petition emphasized the health risks associated with regular consumption of such drinks by school-aged children.

Citing a precedent, the petitioner pointed out that schools in Sindh have already prohibited the sale of soft drinks and synthetic juices, yet similar measures have not been adopted in Punjab. The petition calls for the implementation of a province-wide ban, covering both government and private educational institutions, to protect students from exposure to unhealthy beverages.

The court has been urged to take immediate action to enforce stricter regulations and promote healthier alternatives in school environments across Punjab.
