India’s Failed Attempt to Intimidate Pakistan Backfires, Says U.S. Security Expert
Renowned American academic and security expert Professor Christine Fair has strongly criticized India’s growing war hysteria and media-fueled misinformation during heightened tensions with Pakistan. Speaking during a recent television appearance, Fair dismantled the Modi government’s narrative of military dominance, highlighting the failure of its strategy to deter Pakistan.
“Deterrence is judged by the behavior of the adversary you’re trying to restrain,” she said. “And there’s no evidence that Pakistan has backed down or altered its stance. On the contrary, Pakistan remains firm and unshaken.”
Fair sharply rebuked India’s mainstream media—often referred to as “Godi media”—for misleading the public with exaggerated or false narratives. “India has trapped itself in a dangerous situation by propagating baseless claims. The incendiary media has grossly misled the masses,” she warned, pointing to the risks of inflating public expectations in the face of military limitations.

She further asserted that New Delhi has failed to achieve any strategic or psychological victory over Pakistan. “India hasn’t inflicted any defeat on Pakistan—nor has it scared them off. Pakistan hasn’t retreated, and it certainly hasn’t run.”
On the recent escalation of border tensions, Fair highlighted that the conflict intensified more rapidly than India anticipated, cautioning that media-driven jingoism could result in unnecessary military adventurism. Her remarks come amid international scrutiny of India’s handling of the crisis and growing recognition of Pakistan’s strong defensive posture.
Professor Fair’s candid critique adds to the chorus of voices urging caution and realism in India’s approach, particularly in the face of volatile regional dynamics and rising public pressure fueled by misinformation.
