Lahore Qalandars have secured their spot in the final of PSL X after a dominant victory over Islamabad United on their home turf, setting the stage for a historic chance to claim their third PSL championship—remarkably, all without an official head coach.

Team COO and Director Sameen Rana confirmed that Russell Domingo, initially appointed as head coach before the season began, has not been with the squad since the tournament resumed following its mid-season break.

“Russell Domingo has not been with us since the PSL resumed. The team is currently operating without a coach,” Rana told reporters after the Qalandars’ win against United.

Despite the absence of a coach, Lahore Qalandars have maintained strong performances post-restart, winning crucial matches with notable team cohesion and spirit. Without a coaching presence on the sidelines, the team has relied heavily on its seasoned players and their winning experience to navigate the intense knockout stages.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, alongside senior players like Fakhar Zaman, has stepped up to provide leadership and keep the team united and focused during this pivotal phase.

The Qalandars had to overcome back-to-back challenges, defeating Karachi Kings and Islamabad United on consecutive nights to secure their place in the final, where they now face Quetta Gladiators with confidence. Although Domingo’s role in his first season with Lahore was somewhat satisfactory, the team’s form notably improved after a crucial win over Peshawar Zalmi in his absence—since then, they have been unstoppable.

It remains uncertain if Domingo will return to the team or if his tenure has quietly come to an end. For now, the Qalandars are fully focused on their ultimate goal: lifting the PSL trophy.

This remarkable run to the final, achieved without a head coach, adds a dramatic new chapter to Lahore Qalandars’ evolving PSL saga.
