Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima, has urged the Finance Minister to convene a meeting of the Auction Advisory Committee to accelerate progress on the long-awaited 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, Shaza Fatima emphasized that the Ministry of IT has formally submitted a request for the meeting and stressed that, with the federal budget for FY25-26 now concluded, there should be no further delays in moving forward with the 5G rollout.
“The Finance Minister himself is taking a keen interest in the 5G auction,” she stated, expressing optimism that the Advisory Committee will meet soon to evaluate the next steps.

She further revealed that an international consultant has completed a world-class report on the 5G spectrum auction, which is now ready for review by the Advisory Committee before a final decision is made.
Additionally, Shaza Fatima highlighted another crucial development—the proposed merger of two telecom companies, which is currently under review by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP). She clarified that the CCP is an independent authority, and the Advisory Committee has referred the case to them for a decision, which is still awaited.
This push by the Ministry of IT signals renewed momentum toward Pakistan’s digital transformation and 5G deployment, both of which are seen as essential for enhancing connectivity, innovation, and economic growth in the country.
