Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing and assembly sector has shown strong growth, with over 11 million mobile phones assembled locally during the first five months of 2026, according to official industry data.

The increase reflects the continued expansion of local production under Pakistan’s mobile device manufacturing policy, which encourages international brands and local partners to assemble smartphones within the country instead of relying heavily on imports.

Industry sources suggest that this rise in local assembly is driven by growing consumer demand, improved production capacity, and supportive government policies aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing import bills.

A significant portion of the assembled devices includes smartphones from major global brands operating through local assembly plants. This trend has helped Pakistan reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves while also creating employment opportunities in the technology and manufacturing sectors.

Experts believe that the steady growth in local mobile production highlights Pakistan’s gradual shift toward becoming a regional manufacturing hub for affordable smartphones. However, they also point out that the industry still depends on imported components, which remain a key challenge for long-term sustainability.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and relevant ministries continue to monitor the sector as part of broader efforts to promote digital inclusion and local production capabilities.

If the current pace continues, Pakistan’s mobile assembly output is expected to further increase by the end of 2026, strengthening the country’s position in the regional electronics manufacturing landscape.
