Former lawmaker and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir was arrested early Saturday following a traffic accident. Wazir, a controversial figure, was presented to an antiterrorism court (ATC), which granted police custody for six days. The Islamabad police have not issued an official statement regarding his detention.

The incident occurred when two motorbikes collided, and one of them struck Wazir’s vehicle. Wazir reportedly transported the injured motorcyclist to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where police later arrived. The motorcyclist sustained some injuries but is reportedly in stable condition.

When police attempted to arrest him, Wazir questioned the reasons for his arrest. He was subsequently brought before Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra of the ATC. Prosecutor Raja Naveed requested Wazir’s physical remand, alleging that he assaulted police officers, took a firearm from one of them, and caused a disturbance.

Wazir has denied these accusations, asserting that his only action was to take the injured motorcyclist to the hospital.
