Ather Zahid, the first Saudi-born Pakistani professional wrestler, is set to defend his International Championship title against Indian contender Samrat Virendra on June 7, 2025, in Nepal, coinciding with the sacred festival of Eid al-Adha.

At 29, Zahid has emerged as a prominent figure in South Asian wrestling. Born in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, to Pakistani parents, he has become a symbol of strength, discipline, and cultural pride in the wrestling world. Over the past year, Zahid has gained widespread recognition in Pakistan, appearing on national television, featuring in major media outlets, and building a strong social media following.

The upcoming match in Kathmandu is viewed as more than a sporting event—it represents a significant moment of friendly rivalry between two growing wrestling nations.

“I’m not just stepping into the ring for a title—I’m stepping in with 250 million Pakistanis behind me,” Zahid said ahead of his departure. “To represent Pakistan on Eid, in a match that crosses borders and unites fans, this is bigger than wrestling.”

Zahid claimed the International Championship in October 2024 by defeating India’s Singham Dubey in Kathmandu. His signature move, the Desert Slam, won him acclaim from fans and competitors alike across the region.

Competing on Eid al-Adha adds a special meaning for Zahid, who sees it as “a divine reminder that sacrifice and perseverance always come before celebration.”

His team confirmed that Zahid will perform Eid morning prayers in Kathmandu before preparing for the match.
