Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced another earthquake in the early hours of August 3, marking the second tremor in less than 24 hours.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the quake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was located 15 kilometers east-southeast of Rawat, near Rawalpindi, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake struck at approximately 12:10 am and was attributed to activity along the Rawat Fault — an active fault line in the Pothohar Plateau. This region is part of a tectonically active zone where the Indian and Eurasian plates converge.
The NDMA noted that shallow earthquakes like this one often result in strong tremors felt over a broad area surrounding the epicenter.
