The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced stringent measures in the aftermath of India’s 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia. The crushing loss not only ended India’s chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final but also raised concerns about the team’s preparation, discipline, and management.

Restrictions on Families During Tours

One of the most notable changes is the limitation on the presence of players’ families during overseas tours. Under the new policy, players’ families, particularly spouses, will be allowed to accompany them for only two weeks during a 45-day tour.

This decision follows criticism over the extended presence of several players’ spouses, including those of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Observers suggested that the families’ presence may have distracted players and affected their focus during the critical series.

Mandatory Team Travel

To promote team unity and discipline, the BCCI has mandated that all players travel exclusively via the team bus while on tour. This move follows reports of senior players, including Virat Kohli, traveling separately during the recent series.

Changes for Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and His Manager

Head coach Gautam Gambhir and his manager, Gaurav Arora, are also under increased scrutiny. The BCCI has decided that Gambhir’s manager will no longer stay in the team hotel, sit in the VIP box during matches, or accompany Gambhir on the team bus.

This decision comes amid criticism of Gambhir’s leadership, with many pointing to India’s back-to-back series losses, including a whitewash against New Zealand at home and the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat to Australia.

Aiming for Reforms

These measures reflect the BCCI’s commitment to addressing lapses in professionalism, fostering team cohesion, and ensuring a stronger performance in future international tournaments.
