A tragic incident occurred in the remote Diamer district of Gilgit Baltistan early Friday morning, resulting in the loss of at least 20 lives and injuries to 21 others. The accident took place around 5:30 am at Yashokhal along the Karakoram Highway, where a bus traveling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit plunged into a ditch. The bus was carrying a total of 38 passengers, according to police authorities.

Promptly responding to the distressing report, rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Injured individuals and the deceased were swiftly transported to a hospital in Chilas.

The Director of the Health Department confirmed that three women were among the deceased.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan emphasized the urgent need for medical assistance to the injured, directing both administration and rescuers accordingly.

In light of the emergency, a government spokesperson for Gilgit Baltistan announced the implementation of emergency measures at the Chilas hospital.
