Curry edged out Houston Rockets center Steven Adams by a narrow margin, receiving 66 first-place votes and 1,257 total points. New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson finished third.
At age 37, Curry is a first-time winner of this particular award, adding it to a storied resume that includes 11 All-Star selections, two MVP titles, four NBA championships, and the 2010-11 Sportsmanship Award. The honor is named after Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, former teammates whose relationship symbolized enduring loyalty and compassion after Stokes was left permanently paralyzed following an in-game injury.
Meanwhile, in a dramatic Game 4 showdown between the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons, the Knicks took a 3-1 series lead with a narrow 94-93 victory — but not without controversy.
With 0.3 seconds left, Detroit’s Tim Hardaway Jr. was fouled on a potential game-winning 3-point attempt by Josh Hart — a call that was missed in real time. After the game, crew chief David Guthrie admitted the officials erred and that a foul should have been called. “Hart makes body contact that is more than marginal,” Guthrie stated, confirming the Pistons’ postgame frustrations.
Had the foul been called, Hardaway would have had a chance to win the game at the line. Instead, the Knicks held on thanks to a comeback led by Jalen Brunson (32 points, 11 assists) and Karl-Anthony Towns (27 points, 9 rebounds), who dominated the final quarter.
