The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued strict instructions to all its field formations to enforce full compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the use of the newly acquired Honda City vehicles. This follows an incident in Karachi where a vehicle bearing the FBR logo was found unregistered and without a number plate.

The vehicle was stopped by Karachi traffic police, and the individual behind the wheel identified himself as an Assistant Commissioner of FBR. During the encounter, the officer reportedly lost his composure and misbehaved with the traffic officials.

In response, the FBR issued a formal directive to Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue, Chief Collectors of Customs, Director Generals (PCS/IR), and Collectors of Customs. The directive emphasized zero tolerance for violations of vehicle usage protocols. It also highlighted the need for officers to uphold professionalism, restraint, and dignity, especially in public interactions, as their behavior directly reflects on the institution.

A high-level internal meeting was convened following the incident, where it was decided that the new vehicles would not be used until properly registered, except with prior formal approval. The FBR also prohibited the unnecessary use of these vehicles and ordered the removal of tinted windows.

Strict disciplinary action has been warned against any future misuse of operational vehicles, particularly those displaying the FBR logo. Heads of field offices have been instructed to revisit the SOPs with their teams and ensure that all officers understand the importance of proper conduct and maintaining institutional decorum at all times.
