Google Pay is officially set to launch in Pakistan by mid-March 2025, according to sources familiar with the matter. The tech giant had confirmed the rollout in November 2024, marking the beginning of its partnership with Visa and Mastercard to bring contactless payments to the country.

What to Expect from Google Pay’s Arrival

Unlike the full range of Google Wallet services, this launch will focus primarily on Google’s contactless payment system. Users will be able to link their bank-issued debit and credit cards to Google Pay via the Google Wallet app. This app will also allow users to manage their payments and digital passes, including boarding passes.

Local Bank Partnerships

Multiple leading banks in Pakistan are working with Visa and Mastercard to meet the technical requirements for the service. This collaboration will enable banks to facilitate Google Pay transactions in the country. With all major banks vying for a stake in this development, Google Pay’s entry is expected to have significant impact on the local digital payment landscape.

Pakistan’s Readiness for Google Pay

Pakistan’s payment infrastructure is poised for this transition, as the country already boasts 133,000 point-of-sale terminals, 99 percent of which are capable of accepting mobile contactless payments.
