Federal Government Takes Action Against Two INGOs Over Unlawful Practices
The federal government has initiated measures against two international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) accused of engaging in illegal activities, according to a report by ARY News on Friday.
The Ministry of Interior has directed the US-based organizations, “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” and “Vital Strategies,” to halt all operations within Pakistan. Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and all provinces have been instructed to ensure the closure of these organizations. Additionally, the State Bank of Pakistan has been ordered to freeze their bank accounts. The Ministry has also mandated the immediate shutdown of their offices across the country.

Sources reveal that both organizations have been operating in Pakistan for several years without obtaining proper authorization from the government. Despite their unregistered status, these INGOs reportedly collaborated with the Ministry of Health.
Neither “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” nor “Vital Strategies” is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) or the Economic Affairs Division, raising questions about their compliance with local regulations. This move is part of a broader governmental initiative aimed at addressing unregulated activities by NGOs operating in violation of Pakistani laws.
