The Federal Ombudsman has mandated immediate inspections by the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s Inspection Teams to address significant delays in passport issuance. These inspections will take place in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and other major cities to identify reasons for the delays and devise solutions.

Wafaqi Mohtasib, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, responded to complaints of irregularities, malpractices, and unsatisfactory facilities at Passport Offices by ordering prompt action on Thursday. He directed teams to urgently address these complaints and implement remedial measures.

In response to numerous complaints regarding passport issuance delays, an Inspection Team from WMS previously visited the Passport Office in Islamabad. However, the Compliance Report submitted by the Passport Office was deemed unsatisfactory by the Wafaqi Mohtasib, necessitating further inspection.

The Wafaqi Mohtasib emphasized that Overseas Pakistanis were disproportionately affected by these delays, leading to expired visas or job disruptions abroad. He noted similar challenges for individuals intending to travel abroad for education or family visits.

The official stressed the importance of exposing and addressing elements responsible for artificial shortages and malpractices in Passport Offices to ensure smoother operations.

Numerous complaints about passport issuance delays have surfaced, especially as economic conditions prompt more people to consider relocation.
