Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max could offer enhanced battery life, despite utilizing a battery of the same size as its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This improvement is attributed to a higher energy density in the battery. However, the increased energy density is expected to lead to greater heat generation.
To address this potential issue, Kuo asserts that Apple will implement a stainless steel sheet around the battery for improved thermal management. This feature has been observed in leaked images of the iPhone 16 Pro, indicating that it may be present in both Pro models. Notably, the stainless steel sheet is not only aimed at heat regulation but also aims to facilitate easier battery replacements. Additionally, it aligns with the European Union’s mandate for replaceable smartphone batteries.

According to Kuo, Sunway is anticipated to be the primary supplier of stainless steel battery casings for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Should initial production runs prove successful, Apple might extend the use of these battery casings to the entire iPhone 17 lineup.
The iPhone 16 series is expected to adhere to Apple’s customary September launch timeline. This lineup will likely consist of the standard iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Looking ahead, rumors suggest that the Plus model will be replaced by a new Slim variant dubbed the iPhone 17 Slim next year. Despite this change, reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Slim will maintain its position as the most expensive device within the lineup.
