Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has shared a thoughtful evaluation of the national T20 team’s progress under his leadership, following the recent T20I series against Bangladesh. He acknowledged the team’s current standing and outlined a clear path toward building a more consistent and competitive side.

Taking to social media, Hesson noted Pakistan’s current eighth-place global T20I ranking, calling it a realistic starting point. He stressed the importance of creating depth and fostering competition for places to achieve success in key tournaments like the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.

“Currently sitting 8th in the world, we need to create depth and competition for places, as well as play a style of cricket that can give us more consistency over time,” Hesson wrote.

Reflecting on the six matches played under his watch, Hesson said the series provided valuable insights into the team’s adaptability. He highlighted Pakistan’s improved response after a slow start in Mirpur, showcasing their ability to learn from experience.

The coach praised several newcomers, including Salman Mirza and Ahmed Daniyal, for their strong performances on debut. He also credited the role of specialist coaches in grooming Pakistan’s emerging bowling talent, both during the tour and at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

Despite the mixed results on the Bangladesh tour, Hesson’s calm and realistic assessment suggests a long-term plan focused on merit, depth, and preparation under varied conditions. His next challenge will be the T20I and ODI tour of the West Indies, which marks his first official assignment in the 50-over format.

With major tournaments approaching, Hesson’s focus on structure and bench strength appears to be laying the foundation for future success.

“We’re starting to look like an international side,” he concluded. “Onwards.”
