Veteran pacer Mohammad Amir, currently representing Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2025, has spoken out about his quiet exit from the national team following the 2024 T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies. In a candid interview, Amir criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its lack of communication after Pakistan’s early group-stage elimination.
“After the World Cup, no one contacted me or discussed any plans. A wise person understands when he’s not in the picture — so I had to think about my own future,” said the 32-year-old, who took 7 wickets in four matches during the tournament.

Amir also revealed the personal sacrifices he made to represent Pakistan, sharing that he gave up his county contract and bore personal expenses during the World Cup. “I spent more than I earned — my trainer traveled with me, and I paid all his expenses out of my own pocket,” he added.
Following the tournament, both Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim were dropped and never recalled. While Imad officially retired from international cricket, Amir has shifted focus to franchise leagues worldwide.
In the ongoing Pakistan Super League, Amir has performed solidly, taking 4 wickets in 3 matches for Quetta Gladiators. The team’s next fixture is against Karachi Kings on April 25.
