Citizens across the country are being warned to prepare for a challenging week as Pakistan to face internet disruptions alongside ongoing electricity issues. According to official sources and telecommunication authorities, internet services are expected to deteriorate significantly, particularly during the evening hours, coinciding with scheduled power outages and critical submarine cable maintenance.

Submarine Cable Maintenance Until April 20

The primary cause of the current digital slowdown is an international submarine cable fault. A spokesperson for the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed that repair work by an international consortium has already begun.

These technical repairs are expected to continue until April 20, 2026. During this period, users may experience:

  • Extreme latency and slow browsing speeds.

  • Frequent disconnections during peak evening hours.

  • Difficulty accessing international servers and streaming platforms.

The Double Blow: Power Outages and Connectivity

The situation is compounded by the country’s prevailing electricity issues. As power feeders trip or undergo load management, local internet service providers (ISPs) often struggle to maintain backup power for neighborhood nodes, leading to a total blackout of connectivity in many residential areas. This “double blow” of no power and no data is expected to impact freelancers, businesses, and students throughout the week.

Official Advice for Users

Authorities have urged the public to plan their digital tasks during off-peak hours where possible. PTCL and other major ISPs are working to reroute traffic through alternative cables to minimize the impact, but full restoration is not expected until the marine cable repairs are finalized early next week.
