Pakistan and Russia have officially signed a protocol to restore and modernize Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), marking a renewed chapter in their long-standing industrial cooperation.

The agreement was signed at the Pakistan Embassy in Moscow by Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production Saif Anjum and General Director Vadim Velichko of Industrial Engineering LLC, in the presence of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali.

The initiative aims to restart and expand steel production at the Karachi-based facility, which has been non-operational for several years. “Reviving PSM with Russia’s support reflects our shared history and commitment to a stronger industrial future,” said Haroon Akhtar Khan during the ceremony.

Pakistan Steel Mills, originally established with Soviet support in 1971, stands as a symbol of Pakistan-Russia friendship. The modernization project is expected to enhance production capacity, generate employment, and contribute to Pakistan’s industrial self-sufficiency.
