The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an urgent cyber security advisory to warn telecom operators and network administrators about critical vulnerabilities found in Cisco’s IOS, IOS XE operating systems, and Access Point software.

The advisory highlights 14 identified vulnerabilities, including 10 denial-of-service (DoS) flaws that could lead to system crashes and heap overflow issues. These vulnerabilities present a serious threat to Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure, potentially leading to severe disruptions if exploited.

In response, the PTA has called for immediate action to address these risks. Telecom operators and network administrators are advised to apply the latest security updates for Cisco IOS, IOS XE, and Access Point Software. Additionally, it is crucial to implement robust monitoring systems to detect and respond to any unauthorized access attempts.

Furthermore, the PTA recommends a thorough review and enhancement of access controls to limit exposure to critical network devices and services. Strengthening these measures will help mitigate the risk of unauthorized exploitation and bolster the overall security of Pakistan’s telecom networks.
