Lahore is bracing for a major confrontation as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares to stage a protest at Minar-e-Pakistan on Saturday, despite the enforcement of Section 144 across the city. The PTI’s demonstration aims to highlight the rising inflation, demand judicial independence, and call for the release of their party leader, Imran Khan. The event has been described as a “do or die” situation by PTI, as they remain determined to proceed despite warnings from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The provincial government has implemented Section 144 in Lahore, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Attock, banning political gatherings until October 8 in Lahore and October 7 in Mianwali. Additionally, nine paramilitary Rangers’ companies have been deployed to ensure compliance, with authorities already arresting around 600 PTI supporters in recent police crackdowns.

Security in Lahore has been heightened, with police ordered to patrol the city and arrest anyone defying the restrictions. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has conducted multiple meetings with security officials, calling for a strict crackdown on PTI supporters.

Reports suggest that PTI’s activities are being closely monitored, with the government planning checkpoints and using containers at key city entry points to control access. PTI leader Shayan Bashir indicated that the party is keeping its plans secret to catch the government off guard, while PTI Lahore General Secretary Awais Younas expressed confidence in Lahore’s support for the party, declaring, “Lahore will show its loyalty to the captain.”

With tensions escalating, the nation’s attention is focused on Lahore as the protest unfolds, while PTI faces opposition in the federal capital as well.
