Tourism in Murree is poised for significant growth as the Punjab government has greenlit feasibility studies for two major tourist attractions — a Sky Walk Glass Bridge at a cost of Rs 72.152 million, and a Chairlift & Cable Car system from Lakot to Pindi Point, estimated at Rs 90 million.

The approval was granted during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), chaired by Planning & Development Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf. In addition to the Murree projects, a Cable Car project over the River Indus in Kala Bagh, Mianwali, received approval with a funding of Rs 81.571 million.

Several other infrastructure and development schemes were also approved, bringing the total estimated cost to Rs 5.118 billion. These include:

  • Construction of a road from Danda Shah Bilawal to Ghool via Lawa in District Chakwal (Rs 1.374 billion)
  • Chief Minister’s Minority Development Programme (Rs 1 billion)
  • A feasibility study for a theme park in Lahore (Rs 200 million)
  • Accelerate Punjab Startups Tech Programme (Rs 2.3 billion)

Key attendees at the PDWP meeting included Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali, Secretary Tourism Raja Jahangir, Secretary Minorities Affairs Farid Ahmad, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, along with members of the P&D Board and other senior officials.

These strategic initiatives aim to uplift tourism, infrastructure, minority welfare, and the tech startup ecosystem in Punjab.
