The Chief Minister’s Free Wi-Fi initiative has been extended to more areas across Punjab, including Lahore, with the number of free Wi-Fi hotspots in the city increasing from 200 to 230. Additionally, the service has been upgraded to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology to offer faster and more stable internet connectivity.

Expansion of Free Wi-Fi Across Punjab

The Safe Cities Authority is currently providing free Wi-Fi at 300 locations across 11 districts, including Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock. The service has also been activated in Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree, with plans to expand across the entire province.

To date, over 17.7 million users have accessed the free Wi-Fi, utilizing 438 terabytes of data. While residents have appreciated the service for easing their daily activities, the spokesperson clarified that it is meant for emergency use and will not support video streaming or entertainment.

Punjab’s Digital Transformation in Education

In addition to expanding Wi-Fi coverage, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced smart classrooms and digital labs in government schools as part of the province’s broader digital transformation strategy.

On Digital Learning Day, the CM emphasized the importance of integrating technology into education and preparing Punjab’s youth for the modern world. The government is working to provide students with international-standard IT courses, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Software Development
  • Freelancing Skills

This initiative aligns with Punjab’s vision of becoming a digital hub, ensuring that students have access to modern skills that meet international market demands.
