The Punjab government has initiated a registration process to regulate kite-flying across the province ahead of the upcoming Basant celebrations. Under the new measures, all kite-flying participants will need to register, and only registered individuals and vendors will be allowed to fly or sell kites under monitored conditions.

Authorities state the move aims to ensure safety and prevent misuse, especially concerning hazardous strings and substandard kite materials. Registered vendors will be given permits, and only approved kite materials will be allowed — a step designed to reduce accidents and enforce responsible kite flying.

The registration drive is expected to formalize the entire kite-flying system in Punjab, with oversight over vendors, materials, and flying zones. Officials say this regulation is necessary ahead of Basant to ensure public safety and order during the traditional festival.
