Real Madrid fought hard to avoid handing Barcelona the La Liga title early, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mallorca with a stoppage-time goal by Jacobo Ramón. Despite having almost no chance to win the league, Madrid’s late win delayed Barcelona from clinching their 28th league crown, which they can still secure with a win against Espanyol.

Mallorca took the lead early with a goal from Martin Valjent, but Kylian Mbappé equalized in the 68th minute before Ramón scored the winner in the fifth minute of added time. Mbappé also remains the league’s top scorer with 28 goals, ahead of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois emphasized the team’s fighting spirit despite the odds, while coach Carlo Ancelotti, recently appointed Brazil’s national team coach, received a mostly neutral reaction from fans. Ancelotti will leave after four successful years, with Xabi Alonso expected to take over.

Meanwhile, in the relegation battle, Leganés fell closer to demotion after a 3-0 loss to Villarreal, while Alavés increased their safety margin by beating Valencia 1-0.
