A prominent religious scholar, Maulana Muhammad Idrees, was shot dead in a targeted attack in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in a shocking incident that has raised concerns over security in the region.
According to police officials, the attack took place early in the morning when unidentified assailants opened fire on the cleric’s vehicle in the Utmanzai area. The attackers, reportedly riding motorcycles, fled the scene immediately after carrying out the assault.
Maulana Idrees, widely respected as a religious scholar and teacher, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his wounds before receiving treatment. Two police constables accompanying him were also injured in the incident and are currently under medical care.

Law enforcement agencies quickly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. Authorities have obtained CCTV footage and formed joint investigation teams, including officials from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), to probe the incident.
Initial investigations suggest that the killing was a premeditated, targeted attack. Senior police officials have vowed to bring those responsible to justice, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious scholars and maintaining peace in the region.
The incident has sparked grief and condemnation, with officials expressing condolences to the family of the deceased and assuring swift action against those involved.
