Now, according to recent reports, Samsung is exploring the possibility of extending this long-term support to its budget and mid-range Galaxy smartphones.
A report from TheTechOutlook, confirmed by Sammobile, reveals that Samsung is preparing to release its next-generation budget phone, the Galaxy A16 5G, by the end of this month. While the A16 5G may not match the seven-year software update cycle of Samsung’s flagship models, it is reportedly set to receive an impressive six years of OS upgrades and security patches. If these reports are accurate, the Galaxy A16 5G would become one of the most extensively supported budget Android smartphones, far surpassing the typical two to three years of updates offered in this category.
This information was reportedly leaked from internal training materials shared with Samsung’s sales team. The Galaxy A16 5G is expected to feature a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate for a smoother user experience. In terms of durability, the device will likely come with an IP54 rating, offering protection against dust and water exposure. Powering the A16 5G is rumored to be Samsung’s Exynos 1330 processor, ensuring solid performance for everyday tasks.
If confirmed, the Galaxy A16 5G would not only enhance Samsung’s budget smartphone lineup but also set a new standard for long-term software support in the lower-priced segment.
