Fraudsters have compromised the WhatsApp account of Assistant Commissioner Waleed Anwar in Hajira, Azad Kashmir after tricking him with a fake phone call by pretending to be from a courier service. Once the scammers gained access to his account, they began sending messages to people in his contact list asking for money under false pretenses.
Waleed Anwar later confirmed on his official social media that his WhatsApp had been hacked. He warned the public not to respond to any messages from his number requesting financial help and strongly advised against sending money to anyone through those messages.

Officials say scammers commonly impersonate courier staff, contact victims with a deceptive reason, and ask them to share a verification code or one-time password (OTP) sent to their phone. When the victim provides this code, hackers gain full access to the WhatsApp account and can use it to commit further fraud, including asking contacts for money.
Authorities are urging people not to share OTPs or verification codes with anyone, as legitimate companies do not ask for such details. They also recommend enabling two-step verification on WhatsApp and verifying any suspicious requests through official channels to prevent financial loss.
