Punjab Unveils Relief Package: Solar Power for Homes, Environmental Initiatives

Focus on Energy Relief:

  • The Punjab cabinet approved providing solar systems to 4.5 million low-usage consumers (up to 500 units) to address rising electricity bills.

Education and Healthcare Updates:

  • A standard version of the Quran was approved.
  • The University of Health Sciences was appointed to conduct the MDCAT 2024 exam.
  • A new method for appointing education department leaders was established.
  • The two-year Pharmacy Assistant Course was abolished.

Environmental Protection Measures:

  • The Boilers and Pressure Vessels Ordinance was amended to ban substandard oil.
  • Punjab Mining Concession Rules were amended.
  • A Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate for environmental initiatives was established within the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

Other Approvals:

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the World Food Program.
  • Punjab Police Service Rules were amended.
  • The Walled City of Lahore Authority’s jurisdiction was expanded to cover the entire province.
  • Resignation of the Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank president was accepted, and replacements were appointed.
  • A 15 million euro grant from KFW Development Bank was approved for the Green Energy Project and solarization of schools and hospitals.
