The United States has carried out strikes on Iranian mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving the U.S., Iran, and Israel. The operation came after Washington accused Tehran of attempting to disrupt one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.

According to U.S. officials, American forces destroyed around 16 Iranian naval vessels believed to be involved in deploying sea mines in the strategic waterway. The strikes were aimed at preventing Iran from blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a passage through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass.

The situation in the region has become increasingly tense, with several commercial ships recently damaged near the strait amid the escalating conflict. Some vessels reported fires and partial evacuations after being hit by projectiles during the heightened maritime tensions.

Iran had previously warned that it could block oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz if attacks against the country continued. Reports indicate that Tehran may have already deployed naval mines in the area as part of its response to U.S. and Israeli military operations.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important global energy corridors, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea. Any disruption in the route could severely affect international oil markets and global shipping, which has already led to volatility in crude oil prices and growing concern among energy-importing nations.

Analysts warn that attacks on military vessels and commercial shipping could push the crisis toward a wider regional confrontation, particularly as both sides continue to carry out strikes targeting strategic infrastructure and military assets.
