The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has dismissed over 500 security guards as part of its ongoing efforts to restructure operations.

According to sources, USC terminated its contract with a private firm that supplied more than 500 security guards. This decision is expected to save the organization billions of rupees. Additionally, USC has opted to release loaders and packing labor, with plans to replace them with daily wage workers for the same duties.

USC officials emphasized that the corporation is committed to safeguarding the jobs of permanent, contract, and daily wage employees during this transition.

Previously, reports suggested that the federal government was considering shutting down the Utility Stores. However, after employees staged protests, the government reversed its stance and clarified that no such closure plan was in place.

Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, reaffirmed earlier this week that there are no plans to shut down Utility Stores. He further stated that the organization is exploring various restructuring options.
