Cloud data center to be backbone of infrastructural and technological development of universities in the current digital age.
Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms launched the Cloud Data Centre at Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad on Thursday.
The launch was also attended by Mr. Sun Weidong, Ambassador of China in Pakistan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC and Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director HEC.
The main target of HEC’s Cloud services is high efficiency, productivity and collaboration among various educational sectors of Pakistan.
The services that would be provided are services like Virtual Data Centres (VDC), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Safe Campus Central Solution and Central Surveillance, Unified Communication and Shared Services, Storage as a Service, and Training as a Service.
Mr. Ahsan Iqbal states that:
“It is our responsibility to provide our new generation with good learning opportunities, as we have to make the country an Asian Tiger under Vision 2025 by joining the world’s top 25 economies.”
He further added:
‘Working harder, better and smarter to strengthen its economic muscle’
He said that HEC is well aware of the importance of the human rights and is emphasizing on the right objective of the live.

Cloud services are about focusing an organization on becoming world class with processes that deliver the highest levels of performance than just centralization or consolidation of similar activities in one location.
He also explained the salient features of Cloud Data Centre, which has a total of 20,000 cores (CPU), 20 BP storage capacity, 30 TB RAM, 100,000 VDI and 5000 Could V-Hosts.
“Turning around a country is a complicated and challenging process, but it is not an impossible journey,” the Minister stressed.
